Expectation

Acrylic on canvas (60 x 80 cm)
Price: 600 euro
This painting was created during the sunday service in de Schuilplaats (the Netherlands) on October 27, 2024. The painting reflects the season of anticipation.
Expecting is an active attitude. It is not waiting for something completely unexpected to happen, but it is looking forward to something ‘new’. To expect is to be like a woman who is pregnant. In the womb of a pregnant woman is a child growing: at first it is invisibly small and as time passes it becomes more and more visible. The pregnant woman can feel the new life that she is expecting through the kicking of the baby. The environment can also see that new life is coming through the bulging belly. The expectation has an impact on the environment: it brings joy. In the painting, this impact of expectation is depicted by the colors that radiate from the belly.
Although it is visible to everyone that a baby is coming, the actual shape of the baby is still hidden. The baby is not yet visible. The baby is going to be born, but only when the baby is completely ready for it. When the baby is finally born, it will look completely different from the bulging belly. It is the same with the expectation of something new. One looks forward to the new thing, but cannot completely imagine how it will look like. The new thing will only become fully visible when the time has come for it to be born. Until then it is protected in the invisible realm.
